Ceremonial Vessel with Chakana
A sacred object born from memory and reverence — this Cacao Ceremonial Vessel is inspired by ancient ceremonial artifacts discovered in pre-Columbian cultures, where cacao was honored as medicine, offering, and sacred connection to the divine.
Handcrafted by Kaukawa, each vessel carries a relief of the Chakana, the Andean Cross — a powerful symbol representing the bridge between worlds: the upper (Hanan Pacha), the middle (Kay Pacha), and the underworld (Ukhu Pacha). Just as the cacao tree connects the sky and earth, this vessel reminds us of our interconnectedness with all realms of life.
Its form is grounded on three legs, reflecting ceremonial balance and the trinity of body, mind, and spirit. The cup is designed to hold a small cacao pod, becoming a centerpiece for altars, rituals, and cacao ceremonies. It is a piece that invites presence, gratitude, and reconnection to the ancestral path of cacao.
What makes this vessel especially powerful is its textured surface, where cacao beans and pods are sculpted in relief. When held, the fingers trace the forms of cacao, allowing the carrier to feel its essence directly. The tactile presence of the cacao—its curves, seeds, and pod structure—invites a sensory remembrance of the fruit’s sacred origin. It is a direct and embodied connection to the plant.
Whether used in personal rituals or as a ceremonial offering, this vessel becomes a guardian of intention — an object to honor the spirit of cacao and the teachings it brings.
