Solstice Inti Raymi offer

Solstice, Qoyllur Rit'i, & Honoring the Masculine Principle

June Reflections from Cusco

Hello from Cusco,

June is one of the most sacred months of the year in the Andes.

As the Southern Hemisphere enters the Winter Solstice (Inti Raymi in Quechua) , we are reminded that nature moves in cycles. The stars, the mountains, the seasons, and the agricultural calendar all speak to one another.

At Kaukawa Cacao, born and rooted in Cusco, our work is deeply inspired by the living cosmology of Peru. Beyond cacao, we seek to honor the wisdom passed down through generations — a relationship of reciprocity with the land, respect for nature, and gratitude for the forces that sustain life.

This month, thousands of pilgrims journey to Qoyllur Rit'i, one of the most important spiritual pilgrimages and cultural gatherings in the Andes. High in the Sinakara mountains, above 4,800 meters, communities come together in devotion, celebration, and connection with the oneness.

Long before modern calendars, this period was linked to the observation of the Pleiades constellation, a celestial marker used to guide agricultural cycles and anticipate the fertility of the coming season. It was a time to listen, prepare, and align with nature's rhythms.

As we also celebrate Father's Day in many parts of the world this month, we would like to honor the masculine principle through an ancestral lens.

In the Maya world, cacao was associated with Ek Chuah, guardian of cacao and trade. In the Andes, sacred mountains, or Apus, are seen as protectors and guardians of territory. Both invite us to reflect on qualities often associated with healthy masculinity: responsibility, protection, service, wisdom, and reciprocity.

Similarly, cacao teaches us that growth happens through patience, care, and relationship.

Whether as fathers, sons, brothers, mentors, or community leaders, the masculine can be expressed through presence, integrity, protection, and service.

These values are deeply woven into the traditions that continue to inspire Kaukawa today.

Closing Reflections

As we share ceremonial cacao around the world, we also share the stories, territories, and living cultures that make it possible.

This June, we invite you to take a moment to honor your own relationship with nature, your ancestors, and the communities that support your path.

Looking Ahead

As Kaukawa continues to grow, so does our commitment to building meaningful relationships across the cacao value chain.

Whether you are a retailer, wellness practitioner, chocolatier, distributor, ceremonial facilitator, or conscious entrepreneur, we look forward to creating more B2B partnerships that bring origin, traceability, and cultural value closer to consumers.

Stay tuned throughout June for:

  • Seasonal promotions and special offers
  • New educational content from Peru
  • Announcements for our upcoming Cacao Journeys for 2027 (January)

Together, we can continue building a cacao economy that honors both people and place.

May this month and Solstice bring reflection, gratitude, and renewal.

With warmth from Cusco,

Fiorella
